Letter in Today's Enquirer Journal

  1. With all due respect, nice letter from the Mayor, but still does not repair the MANY animal control problems located as close to around the corner from City Hall itself. Words alone do not aide in the suffering and neglect of pets on a chain. The Mayor of this City, along with his Council Members should be much more proactive about exploring more current and humane Animal ordinances as opposed to the old and difficult to understandn ones currently on the books. If you read these blogs despite driving thru some of the blocks and neighborhoods within Monroe, you can clearly see that there are MANY dogs that are abused, neglected and literally DYING on their chains! Why have the Police and AC not intervened and issued summons'/citations to these pet owners when they have been alerted by citizens in the past? Why have they not seen for themselves this obvious injustice to these innocent animals and took it upon themselves to do something? why should even One animal suffer when the problem is so widespread and obvious? Driving by will not make the problem go away. They are here to serve, protect and enforce the laws, but that has obviously gone unseen. We have to be the voice of the voiceless and these neglectful and abusive animal owners should be charged accordingly. Maybe then, the City of Monroe would not be having to address this highly sensitive matter now and would make the quality of life for all that live within the City a much more happier, healthier and educated City to live in.

  2. Well, I guess he had to make some sort of public statement. It's obvious that the Mayor doesn't know how to deal with this change in his comfortable routine.

But, come on, Bobby!!! Take a ride around your City, or like the first comment mentioned, take a ride around the corner from your office. Heck, come on over to my house and take a look at my neighbors dogs and see what I see every frickin' day!!! Come over for lunch and we'll sit at my dining room table and watch the dog that my scumbag neighbors have chained to their back porch! Saddest damn thing I've ever seen.

Mr. Mayor, these dogs in this blog are just a small fraction of the chained and neglected dogs in our community. There are hundreds more, and I'll bet that most of those negligent dog owners don't even know what's going on here. It's going to take a lot more than unchaining 32 dogs to make this town humane and, Mr. Mayor, you and the City Council members have the power to make those changes, and the citizens of Monroe are counting on you to do so. And so are the animals.

I don't know if the Mayor even likes dogs or not, but surely he is smart enough to recognize the negative impact of this gross animal neglect on our community as a whole (and I wasn't kidding about the dog chained to my neighbor's back porch, and seeing her like that everyday has made this the worst place I've ever lived in my whole life). And lets not forget about all the suffering stray and feral cats in the City of Monroe...that number is staggering.

  3. Have you talked with your neighbor about bringing the dog inside? Have you asked if they'd be willing to give the dog up? My stomach turned when I read your comment! I hope that baby can be helped. I can not imagine sitting there everyday, looking at that!
